I own a financial services company headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland. I am a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), a Maryland Registered Investment Advisor and hold Series 6 and Series 63 Security licenses and Life and Health Insurance licenses.

State Senator – Western Maryland
I have had the great privilege of serving citizens of Frederick and Carroll Counties in the Maryland Legislature, first as a State Delegate and now as a State Senator.

Farmer – Frederick County
I live on a 30-acre farm in Frederick County where I plant, grow and harvest hardwood trees under a forest management plan. I also raise horses and am a longtime member of the Farm Bureau.

Father – I married a few years out of college and then three years later we were truly blessed – first with a daughter and then a couple of years later with a son. While my marriage ended in divorce two years ago (my former wife has since remarried), our children are a source of joy and inspiration for us both.

Board Member, Greenebaum Cancer Center
I believe in giving back to our community and wholeheartedly serve as a Board member of the Greenebaum Cancer Center.

Former Firefighter & EMT – I am a former volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT) with the New Market District Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company.

University of Maryland, College Park – I graduated from the University of Maryland (College Park) in 1981 with a Bachelor's Degree in Government and Politics. A highlight of my college years was taking an immersion program in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

High School, Frederick County – I graduated from Linganore Sr. High School. I was a member of the National Honor Society and elected President of the Student Council. I was also an all-star lineman and honored as a Scholar Athlete.

First Job, Unloading Hay – My first job was my 14th summer, unloading hay wagons for the beef farm across the road, earning $1.20 an hour. I will never forget being paid two crisp $20 bills at the end of each week.

Hobbies – I enjoy reading history books and bike riding, especially on the C&O towpath and other regional rails-to-trails pathways. This summer I adopted a dog from the Frederick County SPCA shelter (half beagle, half boxer/bulldog), named Louie.
